“I’m so nervous,” said as she pulled back the curtain to change into the lingerie she bought for her session.
“Would me being in lingerie make you feel less nervous because you’d instead be weirded out?” I asked.
Laughter rang out…like that belly laugh kind of laughter and the cloud lifted a little bit.
“I’m so pale,” another woman said.
“I’d show you my thighs but I don’t want to blind you,” I replied.
January, 2016 I decided to try something new. I had no clue how to pose women let alone ease their fears and self consciousness. I was still struggling with MY identity, MY body, MY self love…anyway, it was just something to shoot for fun. FOUR women trusted that I would do their body image a service, maybe they just wanted cheap boudoir photos for their significant others, I may never know the REAL reason these women booked me when they did but I will remember their faces forever. These women changed my career.
When I tell others that I am a boudoir photographer a lot of them wince- “wait, like porn?” “SO you photograph naked chicks?” “Do you need an assistant?”.
I photograph women that have stripped down to the most vulnerable layer of their being…women come to me, take their clothes off and trust ME to show them how it feels to love their body, how it feels to create art with their skin. I don’t take my position lightly. A lot of people ask me “WHY BOUDOIR?” and it’s a difficult question to answer in a way that makes sense to most but my response is always the same.
I live for that moment when I turn my camera around to show my client and I see everything click in her mind. I can see the transformation when she goes from timid, unsure, terrified, nervous to knowing that she CAN do it and she’s going to rock it with everything inside of her. I can SEE that moment and it’s worth every single ounce of blood, sweat and tears I’ve put into my business.
I didn’t choose to shoot boudoir- Boudoir chose me.
