Welcome to DAY 2! Today’s topic is….drum roll please….MEDITATION!
Real talk- I’m terrible at “clearing my mind”. No joke, the 3 times I gave yoga a go I found myself worrying about farting and not falling. When the instructor said “clear your mind” I laughed and quickly realized that my brain thought the quiet time (with no kids) meant that I should go through all my to do lists, relive past mistakes and think about random shit. BUT- once i realized that it took practice, like anything else in life I wanted to be good at, I put more effort into it and I MAKE THE TIME to just sit. It’s as easy as waking up 10 minutes early to get to a dark place and close your eyes again for 5 minutes with no distraction. Practice makes perfect.
- Make sure there are no distractions except what I call “natural sounds”…this could be a youtube video you play in the background or a track off spotify/pandora.
- Make sure the temperature is comfortable.
- Make sure it’s darker/dim…I find light a distraction through my eyelids.
- Give yourself as much time as you need.
- BREATHE. Feel your breathing. Focus on your chest moving – that’s what helps me clear my mind ultimately.
Some tracks I love:
TO DO: Make the effort to take 5 minutes out of your day everyday this week- 5 minutes, that’s NOTHING! Use that time to breathe and realize that your damaging thoughts are JUST THOUGHTS, not reality. Put on the sounds, clear your mind and start your day with deep breaths and no stress. There is MORE THAN enough stress in life.
